Which scalpel blade fits which handle?
In short
Compatibility depends on the blade system. Common fitting systems distinguish smaller and larger mounts, such as handles 3 and 4. BAYHA uses its own mount. The same blade number across systems does not mean interchangeability.

Do not confuse handle and blade numbers
A handle number identifies a version within its system. A blade number usually identifies a blade shape, not a universal length in millimetres or connection standard. Read the packaging and specifications.
| Manufacturer example | Stated compatibility | Limitation |
|---|---|---|
| FEATHER handles 3 and 7 | Includes blades 10, 11, 12 and 15. | See FEATHER's chart for additional forms. |
| FEATHER handle 4 | Includes blades 20–25. | Do not transfer this to the smaller mount. |
| BAYHA | Uniform mounting within the manufacturer's system. | Not interchangeable with ordinary fitting handles. |
These are manufacturer examples, not approval of arbitrary third-party products or similarly named copies.
Blade shape changes the task
A rounded edge suits different movements from a narrow pointed blade. A larger edge is not automatically more precise. Choose for specimen size, access and the required method, under instruction. A blade must not be used as a lever or substitute for a dissecting needle.
A handle accepting several blade forms establishes mechanical fit, not that every form suits every job.
Fitting and removing blades
Follow system-specific instructions and practical teaching. Do not touch the cutting edge with bare fingers, force a blade onto an incompatible mount or keep damaged handles in use. Appropriate removers or other aids may be needed. BAYHA's locking mechanism differs from other systems; its procedure cannot be transferred indiscriminately.
Sterile or non-sterile?
Packaging and version must match intended use. A course may specify non-sterile blades for non-living specimens. Conversely, sterile packaging alone does not authorise clinical use of an arbitrary kit. The complete product and intended use remain decisive.

Questions
- Does blade 23 fit handle 3?
- Not in the cited FEATHER system: it belongs on handle 4. Check other manufacturers separately.
- Why does the blade wobble?
- Wrong combination, incomplete fitting, dirt or damage are possible. Stop and have the assembly checked.
- How should I transport it?
- Follow course rules using suitable protection or safe blade removal. Never leave an unprotected loose blade in a case.
